If you’ve been on my blog for a while you’ll know how obsessed I am with the Mally Beauty Face Defender which is a silicone based clear balm that you can apply before or after makeup or, my favorite way, for touch ups during the day. It is 100% clear and colorless so there’s no chance if you’re brown of having a ghostly white cast on your face. It’s also nice because it doesn’t add any additional makeup like a powder might which leads to cake face and clogged pores during the day. What I don’t love is that this product retails for $45 a pop and in my area can only be purchased online, although they do sell it in select Ulta’s across the country.

So then here comes Covergirl with it’s new TruMagic Skin Perfector balm to save the day. This has the exact same premise but retails at the drugstore for $11.99. I’ve had it for a few weeks and I do really like it. The only differences I see between this one and the one from Mally Beauty is that this balm feels significantly wetter than the Mally one which is also probably why I tend to have to touch up more with this product.

If you’re unfamiliar with these types of touch up balms all you do is swipe your sponge across the top to pick up the product and pat it across your face. Make sure you pat it as opposed to swiping so you don’t disturb your makeup. It’s also important that you use a alone with this and not a sponge as your brush could become a sticky mattes mess since this is a solid.

One thing I really don’t like about this product that you can see in the picture above is that there is so much extra packaging! So big in fact that it doesn’t fit in my usual makeup bag. This compact should be smaller and circular; there’s really no need for the square edges.

What do you think of these clear balms for makeup touch-ups?

What a great review, I will definitely have to check it out, I currently use the Skinn Plasma which is $45.00 so will certainly benefit my wallet. Thanks again and keep up the great work!! xoxo
