If you frequent the nail salons you know that CND took the nail polish world by storm when they released their Shellac collection: 14+ day wear, no chips, Teflon polish. Of course this is like your gel polishes that need a UV light to set the polish which limits your at home mani options unless you want to buy the polish, the prep kit, the top coat, AND a UV lamp. Even with all that Shellac is still pretty amazing. But.. all those accessories means more money out of your pocket and if you’re like me and you do your nails at home the price tag can be pretty steep!

So this year CND introduced their Vinylux collection. This polish formula boasts no base coat, week long wear, and increased polish durability with exposure to natural light. Sounds good right? Here’s some fancy info from the website:
“VINYLUX™ is a breakthrough polish system that endures a week of fashion perfection…without a base coat! Exposure to natural light secures the patent-pending Pro-Light technology, creating an enduring, long-lasting polish. While ordinary polishes become brittle and deteriorate over time, VINYLUX dries naturally to a flawless finish and strengthens its resistance to chips over time. VINYLUX is available in 62 fashion-forward polish colors and 47 colors that match popular CND Shellac™ shades.”
So of course I had to try it! I’m a big fan of mini polish collections because I rarely finish an entire bottle of nail polish since I have so many so when I saw this Forbidden Collection pop up for Fall I was sold. The set comes with six fall ready polishes and the Weekly Top Coat.

My one gripe with mini polishes is that sometimes they don’t list the shade name on the back of the bottle. When you want to buy a full size what are you supposed to do then? Thankfully theses all have their respective shade names on the back. The instructions for these are quite simple; prep your nails with CND Scrub Fresh (I used Zoya’s Remove+), paint two coats of polish, and top with the Weekly Top Coat. The polish applies for the most part evenly but this polish will show every ridge and peel in your nail since there is no top coat.

As far as color payoff goes Burnt Romance and Tinted Love are not quite opaque and can come off a little streaky if you’re not careful. I think these shades will do well with three coats instead of two (all swatches are two coats). Dark Dahlia is my favorite; it comes off almost black but in sunlight it is a deep purple shade which is right on trend for Fall of course. Blue Rapture was an unexpected Fall color but it is the most classy shade of medium blue. Night Glimmer and Steel Gaze are going to be perfect for Fall and Winter parties.

I typically post many shots of the nail polish I’m wearing on Instagram so go follow me here if you want to see them! But here’s a shot of my experience with Tinted Love; there are no filters on these pictures, just different lighting. In my opinion on Day 6 (this was taken late Day 6 almost Day 7) there was minimal chipping mainly around the tips of my nails. In the Day 6 picture my thumb is catching the glare of the flash that’s not a huge chip I promise! I asked my followers what they thought and most were not impressed but given how many nail polishes I’ve tried I love the results!

To be honest, I do my nails myself all the time; I haven’t been to a salon for a manicure in years and I was quite impressed with this product. CND makes salon quality products and while I’m no licensed nail tech I think it did pretty darn good. Usually on even my favorite polishes by Day 6 there are MAJOR chips on several nails because I wash my hair frequently and use a gel that I need to dip my fingers into (total mani killer every time).

I’m glad you had a better experience with Vinylux than I did! I am actually going to do a review of some other colors I purchased by them.

Thanks for reading! Yea I can definitely see how certain shades of this formula would be hard to work with.
